After devoting their entire lives to "their" Hospital, Drs Piero Corti and Lucille Teasdale established two foundations in their home countries: the Fondazione Piero e Lucille Corti Onlus in Milan (Italy), and the Teasdale-Corti Foundation in Montreal (Canada).

The mission of both Foundations is to provide economic, technical and logistic support to St. Mary's Hospital Lacor. They play a key role in helping the hospital achieve its mission to provide the best possible healthcare service, at the lowest cost, to as many people as possible.

The Foundations contribute to:

• covering the hospital's running costs (salaries, drugs, consumables, fuel, etc.) and capital expenditure (buildings, medical equipment, infrastructures, training); 
• purchasing and shipping goods and services that can not be found locally on behalf of the hospital;
• promoting Lacor Hospital and its founding values in order to extend the network of supporters who can help strengthen its role as a centre of development for the whole Northern Uganda region. 

Funds granted to the Hospital by major organizations are usually tied to very specific initiatives, such as new activities or buildings. Funding of on-going activities is rarely taken into account. This penalizes large and well-established institutions such as Lacor Hospital, that have offered much needed continuity and quality of service to a vast portion of the general population through difficult times when other health-care givers had closed down or were unable to function. 

The Foundations sustain the hospital’s priorities (especially budget support) in a swift and flexible manner, covering the “gaps” between projects thereby helping the hospital in maintaining uninterrupted services.

IN AFRICA YOU CAN DO MUCH WITH LITTLE

At Lacor, a very rough calculation obtained by dividing the number of patients treated in a year with the operative costs during that year yields an astounding result:  it costs the Hospital only 8 Euros per patient (10 USD) to treat a patient, including tests, drugs, operations and intensive care.
