HOW LACOR HOSPITAL BROUGHT BACK HOPE TO A YOUNG MOTHER

Auma is a young woman in her early twenties, carrying the overwhelming and indescribable responsibility of raising a newborn child alone. Just weeks after giving birth, her baby boy began developing serious complications. He struggled to pass urine and stool, and his tiny body grew increasingly weak.

For three exhausting weeks, she moved from one health facility to another, desperately searching for help for her child. With limited resources and no support system, each journey felt heavier than the last. Eventually, she reached Mulago Hospital, where she was referred to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor (Lacor Hospital).

At Lacor hospital, hope finally took root. For one full week, the medical staff worked tirelessly to save the life of her baby boy. He underwent various treatments and close monitoring until his condition stabilized. Slowly, his swollen belly reduced, he began passing urine and stool normally, and he was able to breastfeed without vomiting. Against all odds, life returned to the fragile little boy.

Today, the baby is stable and recovering well, a living testimony to compassionate and dedicated care.

She expresses deep gratitude to the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor for the care, kindness, and commitment they showed her and her child. Thanks to the hospital’s mission of serving vulnerable women and children, she was able to access life-saving treatment at an affordable cost, something that would otherwise have been impossible for her.

Auma’s story is also one of profound vulnerability. Her journey is a powerful reminder of the impact compassionate healthcare can have, not just in saving lives, but in restoring hope where it is most fragile.
