St. Mary`s Hospital Lacor was founded as a maternity unit nearly sixty years ago. Obstetrics and Gynaecology, therefore, remain at the foundation of the hospital. We are committed to the improvement of the health of women and their families, through the implementation of Maternal and Neonatal Health care programs; to saving mothers and new-born lives as well as offering major reproductive health care services.

The department has developed sets of Standard Operation Procedures that conform to the highest international and national standards.  We continuously strive for excellence in all our services.

POLICY

Our commitment is to ensure that patients care in Obstetrics and Gynaecology entails the highest order of patients’ safety, efficiency, justification for actions and meticulous treatment. We ensure that all verbal advice, counselling, treatment and managements are well documented.

OBJECTIVES

Our aim is to provide diagnostic, curative, preventive and rehabilitative Obstetrics and Gynaecological services that are appropriate, effective, adequate and comfortable to mothers in an optimum environment.

We offer our patients effective counselling to all Obstetrics and Gynaecological patients to ensure that the care provided is patient centred.

We provide collective care along with the three satellite health centres of the hospital to ensure services are provided close to the rural populace.

Mother and baby
We offer comprehensive Antenatal care including the elimination of mother- to- child transmission of HIV and Obstetrics Ultrasound scans;

Maternal and Foetal Medicine services and Conducting of Hospital Deliveries;

Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric care and Post-natal care,

Emergency and general Gynaecological services including Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Post Abortion Care;

Basic Fertility services including Fertility tests and tubal surgeries;

Cervical Cancer screening including colposcopy examinations and treatment of early cancer lesions;

Urogynaecology services including reconstructive surgery for repairs of Obstetric fistulae;

Basic Gynaecological endoscopic including laparoscopic services

COMPONENTS OF SERVICE POINT

Clinics

General Antenatal clinic from Mondays to Fridays 8am to 5pm. General Gynaecology clinics from Mondays to Fridays from 8 am to 5 pm.

Private Antenatal and Gynaecology Clinics every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 5pm.

Postnatal clinics every Thursdays from 8am to 5pm

Cervical cancer screening every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 3pm.

Wards

Maternity (Obstetrics) with 61 beds.

Gynaecology with 40 beds

Labour & Delivery suite, with seven general delivery beds and one private delivery bed.

Five self-contained rooms for private patients

Available 24 hours a day for Obstetrics and Gynaecological emergencies. One theatre is dedicated to handling the Emergencies as and when they arise.

The theatres are opened Every Wednesday and Friday for Elective Obstetrics and Gynaecological surgeries. There are five operation theatres available.

A team of Anaesthesiologists, Surgeons and Nurses ensure efficient and safe running of the operation theatre.

Our Team

The department is run by a team composed of the following dedicated medical personnel:

two senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologists as team leaders, three medical officers, 13 midwives and nurses, one Medical Clinical officer and support staff.

Future plans

To establish an Emergency Obstetric theatre close to the delivery room.

Expand the neonatal care unit.

Establish ultrasound scan within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.

Have ambulances based at the satellite health centres for improved referrals of Obstetric Emergencies to the hospital.
