On Friday, July 25th, we proudly celebrated a major step toward more inclusive healthcare. After a month of dedicated learning, 16 of our staff members, including security personnel, nurses, and pharmacists, graduated from specialized training in Basic Health Uganda Sign Language Proficiency, Deaf-Centered Health Services, and Deaf-Inclusive Health Practices.
This important milestone was made possible through the Facilitating Accessible Communication Easily through Sign Language (FACES) project, implemented by Sign Language for All.
In Uganda, an estimated 90% of health facilities lack sign language interpreters, a reality that leaves many Deaf individuals underserved and unheard. But on this day, we took action to help change that.
By equipping our team with the tools to communicate effectively with Deaf patients, we are creating a more compassionate, accessible, and equitable healthcare environment for all.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the US Mission Uganda, YALI Regional Leadership Center, Boundless, and Sign Language for All for their invaluable support in making this vision a reality.
