St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor continues to play a vital role not only in providing quality healthcare services to the people of Northern Uganda, but also in training the next generation of medical professionals through its long-standing collaboration with Gulu University.
As a recognized teaching hospital, Lacor hosts a campus for Gulu University medical students within the hospital premises, creating an integrated learning environment where theory and practical experience go hand in hand. The students attend lectures and academic sessions at the hospital campus while also undertaking clinical training in the wards and different hospital departments under the guidance and supervision of specialist doctors, consultants, and senior medical staff.
Currently, fifth-year medical students are conducting
their clinical practice and examinations at the hospital, where they are exposed to real-life patient care experiences that strengthen their professional knowledge and practical skills. Through ward rounds, patient assessments, case discussions, and direct interaction with healthcare professionals, the students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for future service in communities across Uganda and beyond.
The partnership between St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor and Gulu University reflects a shared commitment to strengthening medical education and improving healthcare delivery in the country. By providing students with both academic and clinical exposure within a busy hospital setting, the collaboration helps produce competent, compassionate, and highly skilled health professionals who are ready to respond to the growing healthcare needs of the nation.
