We have reached a significant milestone in our staff housing project with the official handover of newly completed staff houses from the Project Management Team to the Housing Committee. The handover ceremony, held at the housing site, marked the culmination of years of planning, construction, and collaboration aimed at improving staff welfare and living conditions.
The event was conducted under the theme “Handover of Staff Houses from the Project Management to the Housing Committee” and brought together hospital management, project stakeholders, members of the housing committee, staff, and everyone who contributed to the success of the project.
The ceremony commenced with prayers, followed by speeches from key stakeholders, the symbolic handover of keys, blessing of the houses by the Hospital Chaplain, and a photo session to commemorate the occasion.
A Project Designed to Improve Staff Welfare
Speaking at the event, the Project Officer, Mr Robinson, highlighted that construction of the housing units was initiated to address inadequate staff accommodation, which has long been a challenge for the hospital.
He noted that the project was intended to improve the quality of life of staff members while increasing motivation and productivity through access to decent housing. Although the project extended beyond its original 2024 completion deadline due to unavoidable challenges, he expressed satisfaction that it had finally been completed and handed over.
Mr. Robinson described the housing project as one of the largest infrastructure investments undertaken by Lacor Hospital, emphasising that it cost billions of Uganda shillings thanks to the generosity and commitment of the donor who funded the initiative.
A Historic Milestone for the Hospital

In his remarks, the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Piero Paul Ocaya, welcomed and thanked all attendees for witnessing what he described as a historic event in the life of the hospital.
He expressed profound appreciation to the donor for prioritising the welfare of Lacor Hospital staff and investing in infrastructure that will benefit both current and future generations.
Mr. Ocaya urged the Housing Committee to uphold transparency and fairness in the allocation and management of the houses. He also called upon future occupants to value the opportunity, take good care of the houses, and ensure proper maintenance throughout their occupancy.
“These buildings will remain a lasting legacy for future generations of health workers who will serve this hospital,” he noted.
Keys Officially Handed Over
The highlight of the ceremony was the official handover of the keys by the Project Officer to the Medical Director and the Chairman of the Internal Management Board (IMB), Mr Odong Emintone, who, in turn, handed them to the Housing Committee.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Odong thanked everyone who contributed to the realisation of the project, including Corti Foundation, Social Promise, and the Anonymous donor whose generous support made the construction possible.
He revealed that 69 members of staff will benefit from the new housing units. He further explained that the newly constructed houses offer significantly improved living conditions compared to older staff residences.
The housing units are fully self-contained, with all essential facilities conveniently incorporated within each home, including washrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and storage areas. The houses comprise both one-bedroom and three-bedroom units designed to meet the varying needs of hospital staff and their families.
Mr. Odong encouraged future occupants to use the facilities responsibly and stressed the importance of proper waste management to preserve the quality and cleanliness of the housing.
Following his remarks, he officially handed the keys to the Housing Committee, which now assumes responsibility for allocating the houses to selected staff members.
The First Fruits of a Long Journey
For several
years, the Lacor Hospital Staff Housing Project has represented a vision of better living conditions for staff. Yesterday’s handover ceremony symbolised the realisation of that vision and the beginning of a new chapter for the hospital community.
As the first beneficiaries prepare to move into their new homes, the project stands as a testament to the power of partnership, generosity, and a shared commitment to supporting healthcare workers. The completed houses will not only improve the well-being of current staff but will also serve as a lasting investment in the future of Lacor Hospital.
The hospital extends its sincere gratitude to the Anonymous Family Foundation, whose generous gift through Social Promise made this project possible. We also thank the Corti Foundation for its essential partnership and work in bringing it to completion.
