Students of St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor Health Training Institute Begin End-of-Semester Exams

Hundreds of students at St. Mary’s Health Training Institute have officially commenced their end-of-semester examinations, marking an important milestone in their journey toward becoming competent and compassionate healthcare professionals.

The examination period began with a comprehensive briefing led by the institute’s leadership, including the Principal, Mrs. Betty Justine Animi, Deputy Principal Mr. Olara Walter, and Academic Registrar Mr. Oketayot Kenneth. The briefing was followed by the arrival of external examiners and invigilators who will oversee the examinations to ensure fairness, integrity, and adherence to national examination standards.

A Commitment to Excellence and Professionalism

Addressing the students during the examination briefing, Principal Mrs. Betty Justine Anyiri encouraged all candidates to approach the examinations with confidence, discipline, and integrity.

She reminded students that examinations are not only a test of academic knowledge but also an opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism expected of future healthcare workers. Students were urged to manage their time well, maintain discipline within the school environment, and prioritise their health throughout the examination period.

The Principal also emphasised the importance of creating a welcoming environment for visiting coordinators, examiners, and guests, noting that professionalism begins with simple acts of courtesy and respect.

“We have prepared adequately for this examination period, and we believe our students are ready. Remain focused, take care of your health, and trust in the preparation you have undertaken throughout the semester,” she noted.

Preparation, Discipline, and Integrity

Deputy Principal Mr. Olara Walter congratulated the students for successfully reaching the examination stage and acknowledged the effort they had invested throughout the semester.

He emphasised that examination success is built on hard work, commitment, and honesty. Students were strongly advised to avoid any form of examination malpractice and to uphold the values of integrity that define healthcare professionals.

“The examinations are an opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned. Be confident, remain disciplined, and allow your hard work to speak for itself,” he encouraged.

He further reassured students that the institution had put all necessary arrangements in place to ensure a smooth and conducive examination environment.

Thorough Preparation by the Institution

Academic Registrar Mr. Oketayot Kenneth highlighted the extensive preparation that had taken place leading up to the examinations.

According to the Registrar, the examination process began on the very first day students reported for the semester, with lectures, practical sessions, clinical placements, discussions, assessments, and continuous evaluations all contributing to the students’ readiness.

He also commended students for their dedication and reminded them of the importance of carefully reading examination instructions, observing examination regulations, and presenting themselves professionally throughout the exercise.

The Registrar noted that all eligible candidates had been successfully registered for the examinations and that the institution had worked closely with relevant examination authorities to ensure all requirements were fulfilled.

External Examiners Commend the Institution

On the opening day of the examinations, external examiners and invigilators addressed the students and emphasised the importance of punctuality, honesty, and compliance with examination regulations.

They encouraged candidates to report on time, carry only authorised materials into examination rooms, and seek guidance from invigilators whenever necessary.

The examiners also commended the Institute for its reputation as one of the leading health training institutions in Northern Uganda. They encouraged students to uphold that reputation through discipline and ethical conduct.

Students were reminded that the role of the examination team is not to intimidate candidates but to ensure that examinations are conducted fairly and professionally for the benefit of all learners.

Building the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals

The examination exercise brings together students from Nursing, Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Technology, and other health-related programs at both certificate and diploma levels.

As part of the  Health Training Institute’s commitment to quality health education, the examinations serve as an important step in ensuring that graduates are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional values required to serve communities across Uganda and beyond.

The institute continues to benefit from the support of St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, partners, parents, and donors whose contributions help create a conducive learning environment for future healthcare workers.

Looking Ahead

As examinations continue over the coming days, the management, staff, parents, and partners of St. Mary’s Health Training Institute remain confident in the students’ abilities.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the lecturers, support staff, examination coordinators, external examiners, and all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to ensure a successful examination period.

Most importantly, we wish all our students calm minds, good health, confidence, and outstanding success in their examinations.

To all our candidates: Believe in yourselves, trust in your preparation, and give your very best. The entire St. Mary’s Lacor family is proud of you and wishes you every success as you take this important step toward your future healthcare careers.
